¿Puede recomendarnos algún buen restaurante cerca de aquí?
I’d like to reserve a table for two people at 8pm.
Quisiera reservar una mesa para dos personas a las ocho.
Can you recommend a local dish?
¿Puede recomendarnos algún plato típico de aquí?
Do you have any vegetarian dishes?
¿Tienen algún plato vegetariano?
May I have a glass of red wine/white wine/sparkling wine?
¿Me puede traer un vaso de tinto/vino blanco/cava?
Depending on whether you prefer bottled beer or draft is your first question.
A bottle of beer please (brand name).
Una cerveza de botella, (brand name) por favor.
Un tercio* de (brand name) por favor.
* Tercio is a term that references a third of a liter, 330mL, standard bottle of beer
The more common route is to order a small glass beer with your tapas or to begin a meal
May I have a glass of beer please?
¿Me puede traer una caña*, por favor ?
*Caña literally means ‘reed’ or ‘cane’ and refers to the stem of the glass that a large draft beer is served in. This is a popular option that you will often see offered with a snack of some kind.”
Can I have a sandwich with jam and cheese?
¿Me pone un bocadillo* con jamon y queso, por favor?
*Bocadillo: Something like a ’submarine sandwich.’ The bread is crisp and can be filled with any number of things different types of ham, cheese, even Spanish omelette. Usually bare by Anglo standards, without mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce and the like. The best bocadillos are fine examples of Spanish cuisine – strong, simple flavours and quality ingredients.
